Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
  • Manage, review and implement revisions for all company Risk Management Plans.
  • Evaluate proposed changes to regulations and law governing chemicals, Risk management and pesticides procedures, coordinate company involvement and advocacy strategies. Interpret and provide guidance on the applicability of any local ordinances pertaining to these subject matters.
  • Correspond with regulatory agencies as required.
  • Respond to agency inquiries and provide clarification or verification to data that has been submitted to the agencies.
  • Responsible for annual SARA reporting and community right to know inspections.
  • Provide technical support for OSHA, EPA requirements for chemical usage, storage and exposure.
  • Assist supply chain in the approval of all new chemicals during the procurement process.
  • Act as liaison between EH&S and operating organizations in interfacing with government agencies.
  • Develop, review and update company risk management plans, chemical and pesticide procedure instructions and specifications.
  • Provide technical support to Supply Chain during bid reviews.
  • Participate in EH&S Emergency Resource Mobilization during emergencies. As necessary, be available to work overtime and shift work.
  • Assess company locations to confirm regulatory compliance.
  • Lead company initiatives to identify environmental risks, and work with operational organizations to develop and implement mitigation plans.
  • Work with company locations which are subject to Department of Homeland Security oversight.
  • Utilize Con Edison's internal environmental management applications including the company chemical reporting system, oracle, that provides specific information on company chemical usage.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree And 3 years related work experience Or
  • Bachelor's Degree And 5 years related work experience

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Management, Engineering or related field
  • Master's Degree Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Management, Engineering or related field

Required Work Experience

  • Professional experience working on issues requiring oversight of federal and state petroleum and/or chemical bulk storage programs. Preferred
  • Professional experience working on issues requiring oversight of federal and state waste programs. Pref

Skills & Ability

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

Physical Demands

  • Must sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for entire shift
  • Must be able to read small print and symbols.

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
