Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • The selected candidate must have a HS Diploma/GED and 2 years experience in working on electrical utility systems.
  • Must be able to work in a manhole and at high elevations, excavations and in tunnels.
  • Selected candidate must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate will be required to work overtime and rotating shifts.
  • Selected candidate must have knowledge and skills in the following areas: fabricate/install/test pipe; support splicing operations; the ability to remove and install cable;; the use of hand and power tools; the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical equipment; knowledge of safe work practices and environmental policies and procedures; the ability to perform standard maintenance functions such as measuring, pipe cutting, and handling various equipment; operate heavy machinery; the ability to obtain certificates of fitness and/or licenses as required. Knowledge of feeder freezing operations, valving operations, evacuation/filling operations, pipe inspection/repairs is preferred.
  • Requires basic computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office.

Required Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED And 2 years experience in working on electrical utility systems.

Required Work Experience

  • Must have 2 years experience in working on electrical utility systems. Required
  • Knowledge and skills in the following areas: fabricate/install/test pipe; support splicing operations; the ability to remove and install cable;; the use of hand and power tools; the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical equipment; knowledge of safe work practices and environmental policies and procedures; the ability to perform standard maintenance functions such as measuring, pipe cutting, and handling various equipment; operate heavy machinery; the ability to obtain certificates of fitness and/or licenses as required.   • Basic Electricity (TLC1010); Electrical Enclosed Space (ELE1010); First Aid/CPR (SAF0031) Required
  • Knowledge of feeder freezing operations, valving operations, evacuation/filling operations, pipe inspection/repairs is preferred. Preferred
  • HazWaste training; Substations Overview. Pref

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B Required
  • Other: Tanker Endorsement 1 1/2 Yrs Required
  • Other: Hazmat Endorsement 1 1/2 Yrs Required
  • Other: FDNY Licenses (C.O.F.) 1 1/2 Yrs Required

Physical Demands

  • Must respond to system emergencies
  • Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
  • Must perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Must perform heavy manual labor; i.e. pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Must carry tools and materials, climb ladders and scaffolds, and enter confined spaces
  • Must work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
  • Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Must walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
  • Must use hand tools and operate heavy equipment,i.e. jackhammers
  • Selected candidates must pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
  • Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
  • Must work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 350 llbs.
  • Must be able to use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375 lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment.
