  • The Manager in the Customer Energy Consulting and Inspection section has diverse responsibilities. The primary focus of the role is to identify, examine, assess, and standardize energy savings within energy efficiency and demand management programs. They will oversee a team consisting of technical staff and contractors, who will be responsible for thoroughly reviewing and evaluating energy efficiency and demand management technologies to determine their suitability for participation in our programs. Expertise in this area is crucial to ensure that the selected technologies meet program requirements and contribute to substantial energy savings.
  • In addition to managing the review process, the manager will also serve as a technical resource for all functional groups within the department. This means that the manager will actively collaborate with teams from different areas, such as program delivery, strategy, project management, marketing, and finance, to creatively assess and develop technical solutions that effectively address their respective needs and contribute to achieving our overall business goals. Understanding the intersection of technical feasibility and business objectives will be essential in making informed decisions and driving the success of our initiatives.
  • As the energy industry continuously evolves, the manager will need to stay up to date with the latest developments, emerging technologies, and changing regulations. This will enable them to adapt strategies, methodologies, and processes to maintain the relevance and effectiveness of our programs in a dynamic environment. By leveraging their technical expertise and staying informed about industry trends, the manager will play a critical role in shaping our approach to energy efficiency and demand management.
  • The manager will provide support to the program management teams in implementing various technologies, codes, and standards relevant to the programs. This involves assisting in the integration and utilization of these technologies, as well as ensuring compliance with applicable local and state codes and standards. By actively collaborating with the program management teams, the manager will help streamline the implementation process and ensure that the programs align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Their expertise in technology integration and knowledge of relevant codes and standards will be instrumental in facilitating the successful execution of the programs.
  • Establish and maintain regular and effective communication with the Section Manager, Program Implementation Managers, and Business Development/Account Executives. This communication will be essential for providing technical guidance and analysis, as well as establishing a feedback loop. By actively engaging with these stakeholders, the manager will ensure that technical insights and recommendations are effectively communicated and incorporated into decision-making processes. This collaborative approach will help facilitate a continuous feedback loop, allowing for timely adjustments and improvements based on the technical guidance and analyses provided by the manager.
  • The manager will play a key role in supporting the program delivery teams. This involves developing a deep understanding of the mechanical and construction industry and the customers' businesses. The manager must grasp customers' challenges and how energy efficiency relates to their specific business operations. The manager should effectively communicate and demonstrate how energy-efficient technologies and measures can best serve the customers' interests. This support will enable the department to successfully promote the programs and highlight their value in addressing customer needs and achieving their business objectives.
  • The manager will be responsible for managing the procurement process of contractors and overseeing the review and administration of contracts and budgets. This entails ensuring that contracts are properly reviewed, executed, and monitored throughout their lifecycle. Additionally, the manager will review vendor invoices and associated support documentation to validate the accuracy of billing information and compliance with corporate rules and procedures. By diligently overseeing these processes, the manager will contribute to effective financial management and adherence to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Conduct review and assessment of vendor work product consistent with Company and departmental procedures and policies and industry standards.
  • Represent the interests of the Company and the department to stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and other entities.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders and Department of Public Service Staff in a supporting role.
  • May perform other special projects and related assignments as required to support operations and activities as directed by Director, Section Manager or Department Manager or NYS DPS.
  • Assist in Company emergencies as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree 3-5 years of work experience

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Tech & Sustainability
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Environmental Tech & Sustainability Related work experience Engineering, Building Systems & Architecture

Relevant Work Experience

  • Experience in energy efficiency, engineering projects, and the building engineering industry. Required
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including technical writing and oral presentations. Required
  • Must have strong analytical skills/experience. Required
  • Strong interpersonal skills must be a team oriented individual. Required
  • Excellent engineering skills and the ability to simplify complex problems are essential qualifications. The candidate should be proficient in conceptualizing and proposing solutions, even in ambiguous situations and when faced with tight deadlines. They should feel comfortable navigating dynamic environments, skilled in breaking down intricate issues, and capable of delivering practical and efficient solutions within demanding timeframes. Required
  • Excellent time-management, organizational skills, detail oriented and flexible in handling multiple assignments and ambiguity while being able to meet deadlines. Required
  • Demonstrated familiarity with primary energy consuming building systems, with particular emphasis on Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC+R). Required
  • Must be able to make sound decisions through the use of traditional and creative solutions while measuring the risks and impacts of his/her actions. Required
  • Must demonstrate a high regard for personal accountability and focus on the importance of delivering advanced products and services to our customers in a dynamic environment. Required
  • Must have strong computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other related database management tools. Required
  • 3-5 years Supervisory experience. Preferred
  • Knowledge of demand side management, response strategies, and various energy efficiency programs. Preferred
  • Experience with building simulation and code compliance software. Preferred
  • Experience managing inter-disciplinary teams. Preferred
  • Experience with vendor contract procurement. Preferred
  • Oracle proficiency. Preferred

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
