Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Engineer/Sr. Engineer will serve as a Environmental Project Manager to manage all aspects of site investigation and remediation projects, including work plan development, negotiating remedial investigations and cleanups, contractor selection, oversight of field investigations and remediations, report preparation/review and agency negotiation, In addition, the project manager establishes and maintains budget and schedule, processes all consultant/contractor invoices, completes all internal and external financial and project reporting.
  • Serve as the EH&S Project Manager for remedial projects from site identification, conceptual development and planning through implementation, including regulatory negotiation.
  • Oversee environmental remedial investigations and cleanups, including work plan development, field planning and implementation, contractor selection, oversight and evaluation, report preparation/review and agency negotiation.
  • Provide guidance in remedial policy development, regulatory interpretation and agency communication.
  • Act as liaison with other Company departments, contractors and government agencies to assure an informed and coordinated approach in achieving corporate environment, health and safety objectives.
  • Ensure that the long term goal of the Remediation project is successfully implemented and that the project is completed on schedule and within the budget.
  • Prepare financial requests and project-scoping documents and ensure that they are in accordance with corporate processes and procedures and are documented in the Remediation electronic filing system.
  • Participate in site investigation scoping and engineering design review and planning meetings and manage outside vendor design efforts.
  • Resolve field challenges during investigation and remediation work.
  • Apply technical knowledge and analytical abilities to project planning and resolving issues associated with EHS Remediation projects / programs.
  • Represent Remediation Department on EHS/Company committees.
  • Develop work plans that are technically sound and address necessary and appropriate regulatory mandates
  • Review consultant technical / cost proposals to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Conduct critical review of all aspects of consultant deliverables including, correctness, accuracy, format, clarity of narrative and overall presentation of the data and information, etc.
  • Efficiently manage cost and schedule for multiple assigned projects; and effectively communicate with all stakeholders (including Senior management, internal groups in Con Edison, regulators, property owners, etc.).
  • Perform other related tasjs and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering; preferably in related field such as
  • Environmental, Chemical, Geological, or Civil Engineering And Engineer 2L: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant environmental experience with at least three (3) years of experience overseeing
  • environmental site investigation and remediation (SIR) projects and application
  • of environmental engineering. Developing SI/RA work plans; Managing consultants; establishing and maintaining
  • budget and schedule; managing diverse aspects of SIR projects; writing / reviewing of technical documents such as SOWs, reports, etc.; identifying remedial
  • options; and implementing federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations. Or
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering; preferably in related field such as
  • Environmental, Chemical, Geological, or Civil Engineering And Sr. Engineer 2H: In addition to requirements of Engineer 2L (above) - Minimum of eight (8)
  • years experience and expertise in the application of environmental engineering in
  • management of SIR projects. In addition to the experience required for Engineer 2L (listed above): developing, evaluating and negotiating remedial
  • alternatives with NYS DEC and
  • other applicable regulatory agencies; implementing/managing remedial actions.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree Engineering; preferably in related field such as
  • Environmental, Chemical, Geological, or Civil Engineering

Required Work Experience

  • 3-5 years Relevant environmental experience with at least three (3) years of experience
  • overseeing environmental remedial investigations and/or remediation. Req
  • 8-10 years Experience and expertise in application of environmental engineering. Pref

Skills & Ability

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills And
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: OSHA HAZWOPR 40 hour training and Annual Refresher Upon Hire

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must have willingness to work and travel within the Company service territory.
  • Must be able to wear PPE when working in areas that require it.
  • Must be able to work outdoors, perform walking, climbing stairs, bending, and minimal lifting.
