Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • The Equipment and Field Engineering Department of Central Engineering is seeking to hire a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join the SPEED (Special Projects Equipment Engineering & Design) section - CIVIL specialization.
  • Use technical competence to determine the civil scope-of-work for a project.
  • Prepare advanced planning documents, scoping documents, budget requests and appropriation documents.
  • Prepare detailed specifications for projects. Meet with vendors and customers to optimize the proposed design.
  • Perform economic evaluations.
  • Establish project schedules.
  • Provide support to existing and proposed Company Substation & Transmission facilities, Purchasing and Construction Departments for the procurement and construction of projects.
  • Be responsible for both in-house and out-of-house design efforts. Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
  • Provides technical assistance as required.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 2 years of work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience in either transmission or substations (TRANSMISSION: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis of transmission structures and knowledge of substation and overhead transmission engineering design. SUBSTATIONS: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis, and/or electric substation engineering design) - ASSOCIATE ENGINEER A (1H) Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 3 years of applicable engineering experience in either transmission or substations (TRANSMISSION: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis of transmission structures and knowledge of substation and overhead transmission engineering design. SUBSTATIONS: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis, and/or electric substation engineering design). EIT registration preferred - ENGINEER (2L) Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 8 years of applicable engineering experience in either transmission or substations (TRANSMISSION: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis of transmission structures and knowledge of substation and overhead transmission engineering design. SUBSTATIONS: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis, and/or electric substation engineering design). PE License required - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H) Or
  • Master's Degree and Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering And 6 years of applicable engineering experience in either tranmission or substations (TRANSMISSION: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis of transmission structures and knowledge of substation and overhead transmission engineering design. SUBSTATIONS: work experience in computer design and/or finite element analysis, and/or electric substation engineering design). PE License required. - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H)

Required Work Experience

  • REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be responsible for the indirect supervision of both in-house designers and out-of-house consulting engineers and requires capability of supervising both.
  • Requires either a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Requires knowledge in the design of concrete, masonry and steel structures.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all applicable codes such as ACI, AISC, NESC, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the safety and environmental issues that impact civil projects.
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience in substation and/or transmission.
  • Senior Engineer (2H) required PE License.
  • Requires computer proficiency to include Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Should be knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles. Required
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments Pref

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) required for Sr. Engineer (2H) Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be willing and able to wear the required PPE as needed
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, and beyond, as needed.
  • Position requires ability to work indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a substation environment with noise, heat, confined space, tall structures etc.
  • Must be approved and able to wear a tight-fitting respirator, including a half or full face respirator, without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Must be willing and able to wear full body fall protection.
