Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and manages the safe and expeditious operating repair and restoration of Orange & Rockland's electrical distribution overhead and underground circuits, and secondary services to maximize reliability and minimize service interruptions.
  • Direct, plan and coordinate priorities and assignment of human resources for all Electric Operations during system emergencies or overhead storms, to ensure rapid restoration and reliability of electric distribution system and minimize service interruptions.
  • Develops and administer plans and procedures to improve the performance, reliability and restoration of the electrical distribution system.
  • Monitor adherence to government and regulatory requirements. Emphasizes and achieves the regulatory reliability performance mechanisms. Develops and establishes close working relationships with state and municipal agencies.
  • Evaluate the performance and integrity of the electrical overhead and underground distribution systems and participates in the development and implementation of goals and plans to upgrade the distribution systems.
  • Performs and responds to internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, operating and housekeeping procedures, which will provide for employee safety and welfare. Ensure that the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
  • Enhances the Company's public image by effectively directing the performance of the organization's field forces and the appearance of its equipment. Instills a sense of Customer Satisfaction in subordinates and peers. Actively seeks methods to ensure excellence in every customer experience.
  • Must be available to respond to system emergencies on a 24/7 basis with special emphasis on Storm restoration activities including assigned storm roles. During emergencies, will supply and direct necessary resources and interface with the Distribution Control Center (DCC) as necessary.
  • Establishes and communicates meaningful goals and objectives. Monitors, directs, guides and assists subordinates to successfully meet assigned goals and tasks.
  • Monitor productivity of the workforce, and implements changes to continually improve efficiency.
  • Must recognize the importance of Commitment to Excellence, be able to provide exemplary customer service, demonstrate a high energy level, be flexible, and be able to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
  • Identify efficiencies in support of the Electric Emergency Response Plan.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree And 8 years demonstrated ability to lead a large organization

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering (preferred)

Required Work Experience

  • Must possess 8 or more years related experience. Required
  • Experience in construction, operations, maintenance, and restoration of the electric distribution system to ensure rapid restoration and minimize service interruptions is required. Required
  • Extensive experience in the planning, motivating, directing, and control of union and management/supervisory employee is required. Required
  • Must be able to articulate, have a professional demeanor and be comfortable dealing with Executives, large groups and our customers. Required
  • Must possess superior leadership qualities with proven track record for initiating and leading change and be result oriented. Required
  • Must be able to provide exemplary customer service, demonstrate a high energy level, and be able to handle multiple assignments including response to storms (heat and weather related), incidents and changing priorities while meeting deadlines. Required
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications required. Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills are also required, along with field experience, knowledge of electrical distribution system, Electric Operations, Construction, underground structure maintenance, strategies for restoration of the distribution system, and Work Management System. Required
  • Strong decision-making, organization, interpersonal and communication skills with a solid teamwork orientation, and strong attention to detail are essential. Required
  • Must be available during off hours at all times to respond to emergencies or direct activities when necessary. Required
  • Experience in the Distribution Control Center and OMS. Pref

  • Must be able to read small print and symbols.

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

  • Must be available during off-hours, and be on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies or direct activities when necessary.
